LIFE RCN Seminar Series Episode 6: Dr. Michael Kipp and Dr. Chenyi Tu

Time: Wednesday, November 4th, 8am PDT/11am EDT

Dr. Michael Kipp is an Assistant Professor of Geochemistry in the Division of Earth & Climate Sciences at Duke University. He is interested in studying Earth’s evolution as a habitable planet using the sedimentary record and biogeochemical models. His group at Duke – GAIA Lab (Geoscience Application of Isotopic Analysis) – uses state-of-the-art isotope geochemistry techniques to place constraints on processes such as the rise of oxygen and evolution of major nutrient cycles

The title of Dr. Kipp's talk is entitled "Causes and consequences of phosphorus scarcity in the Precambrian ocean”.

Dr. Chenyi Tu is a postdoctoral fellow of the NASA Postdoctoral Program at Duke University. He employs elemental and isotopic tools to elucidate the potential factors that have governed marine redox dynamics and nutrient cycling in Earth history, at both local and global scales.

The title of Dr. Tu's talk is entitled "The role of alkalinity in the origin of phosphate deposits".
